Jumping Jack Flash ..... it's a gas

Let's put that song in the category of 'songs I've always loved, but they came out before I was a real musician, so I never actually played it'.... until now. Holy crap, that's one of the great rock songs of all time; it's got the riff, got the lyric, got the energy, what an ass kicker of a tune, and it goes right into the repertoire.

The reason I picked it up is because last night, I went out with my buddy Harris to check out some of the other venues in town. He's been coming here for years, knows his way around, so off we went. Ended up at Tuk's place, the Brasserie. Tuk is probably the most famous musician in town. He's a 50 something Thai guy, long hair pulled back, a dark goatee, super skinny guy, and he totally looks like George Harrison. That was the first impression I had of him a few weeks ago when he showed up at my hangout and jammed with us.

That was Harris' thought as well, and he told me that when he said to Tuk, 'you look like a Thai George Harrison', Tuk's response was, 'That's what George Harrison said.'
Tuk has spent a lot of time in Europe, goes there regularly to perform, and has met many of the big names in the business, including George. He used to have a house somewhere up there next door to Jim Capaldi, and he's definitely connected.

Here he owns the Brasserie which is a cool club on the Ping River, that specializes in Rhythm and Blues. When we showed up there was a great quartet of young players knocking out some Albert King and other classic blues. Really strong young lead guitarist, Wow, he blew the doors off the place. But then when Tuk came up to sit in, young blood had to take a back seat to the legend (even though he's twice the player that his mentor is). Made for an interesting dynamic actually, as he was showing deference to his senior, but you could just tell that he wanted to step out and shred. That's what we wanted too.

The first tune that Tuk called was Jumping Jack Flash by the Stones, and I could see the riff easily, see the progression, I know the lyrics, and voila, now I can play my favorite Stones tune, which I will do at many gigs into the future. Thank you Tuk.

Today's song... 'Some guy's tired....'

It's a country song in the key of C

Oh my God, what an angel
She must be a perfect ten
I haven't seen such beauty
Since, Lord I don't know when
But it's not only physical
The lady has style and wit
She's kind and she's pure
And you can be sure
That some guy's tired of her shit

Or how about that intelligent girl
Though some might call her a geek
She graduated summa cum laude
She's fluent in Latin and Greek
Has a masters degree from Harvard
She's close to her doctorate
A brilliant mind and still you'll find
There's some guy who's tired of her shit

3/4 bridge
What's with you guys who can
Never be satisfied
When will you learn to accept
And be gratified
Nobody's perfect, especially you
Why find fault? Oy Gevalt

Isn't it time that you cut her some slack
Open your mind and get off the attack
Love is an ocean, a sea of devotion
And Grace....

4/4
I should be like Mother Theresa
Someone who's above it all
A lifetime of love and sacrifice
She selflessly heeded the call
Spent all her time serving others
A spirit that would never quit
I'm certain that she's up in heaven
And God's surely tired of her shit
