Perspective

I got a dose of 'the man with no shoes was feeling sorry for himself... until he saw the man with no feet' last night. I had spent the day kind of feeling sorry for myself, down on myself, sick of my ruts, when I went over for my weekly trip to the Blues Jam. And there I got the message that hey dude, chill out, don't you realize how lucky you are? I got it in back-to-back installments, the first from Candyce, who had just spent the past two days with a dying woman. Candyce is a hospice volunteer and she is spending time with someone whose candle is nearly extinguished.

So she was in a bit of an altered state and was incredibly aware of the gift of health and vibrancy and breathing and strength. And I'm like, oh yeah, I remember. Soon after our conversation, I talked with a new friend Rico, from Argentina, who commutes between Minnesota and Oregon. He was in love with the Oregon winter (the one that we all whine about) because compared to winter in Minnesota, this is heaven. Same story, appreciate what you have because it could be so much worse. Thank you, teachers, I got it.
